“Fascia gives consciousness it’s local voice.”
- John Sharkey
I have always been fascinated by what makes us human. Long before I became a yoga teacher, I studied anthropology, trained as an actor, explored voice work and worked in the non-for-profit sector. Although they may seem like very different paths, they all asked the same questions: Where do we come from? What are we? - Physically, mentally, spiritually. What is our story, and how does it present itself in our body, voice, life?
When I discovered fascia, something clicked. The way Fascia explained how the mind affects the body, and the body affects the mind, like constant dance between our experiences, reactions and biology that shape our tissues and inner landscape, echoed something deep within me. Studying it gave me a feeling of wholeness, interconnectedness and grounding accompanied by a different language that I felt my yoga practice was missing. Practicing within it’s framework introduced me to freedom of exploration I realised I had longed for in my time on the mat, an invitation to be guided by something from within. Teaching it seemed to bring my students out of their shell and inspire confidence and ease. I was immediately drawn in by the subtle echo of sensation within us, a sea of information available to us when we are still. It didn’t feel like I was learning something new, but remembering something my body had known all along.
Today, my teaching blends evidence-based fascia science with curiosity, creativity and choice. I hope to help people develop the confidence to understand their own bodies and needs, and carry that understanding into everyday life.
I still step onto my mat to learn. Some days I move with ease, and other days I meet stiffness, distraction or resistance. Each practice reminds me that this practice is not about doing it right - it is about creating time and space to turn all your attention inwards, to yourself - and listen for what is happening in the moment.
I am still learning not to come to the practice just to feel good - but simply to feel.
When you come to my classes, you can expect…
A welcoming, inclusive space.
Clear, evidence-informed teaching.
Freedom to explore rather than perform.
Options for every body and every level.
Plenty of time to slow down, notice and rest.
A practice that supports life beyond the mat.
My work is informed by ongoing study in fascia science, yoga, movement and life experiences. I continue to learn because I believe understanding the body and what makes us whole is a lifelong practice.
Fascia science is evolving quickly and new studies come out regularly. As a member of the Fascia Research Society and various other Fascia related organisations, I commit great portion of my time to keep up to date with the most recent findings that affect this work.
